Admission Requirements
Lawton requires all applicants to be at least 17 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Individuals who are beyond the age of traditional secondary schooling (beyond compulsory age), and have the ability to benefit from the training offered, (please refer to the individual program descriptions) maybe considered for admission upon meeting theschool’s admission requirements. The ability to benefit from the training offered is determined by obtaining a passing score on the school’s entrance exam. This exam is approved by the U.S. Department of Education for the assessing ability to benefit, and may further be contingent upon personal references, interest expressed during student’s interview, or life experience (i.e. community involvement, work, etc…). For specific admissions information on individual programs, refer to the program descriptions in this catalog.
The admissions process is dependent upon the exchange of information between the applicant and the school. The admissions director, as a liaison, conducts a personal interview with each applicant. During the interview process, the admissions director recommends programs in relation to the applicant’s career preferences, training needs, and individual motivations. Once the interview process is complete a final decision is made to be admitted for training.
The department may deny admission to potential applicants who do not meet the standard criteria necessary to be admitted. This may include applicants who are unable to receive financial aid and are unable or unwilling to pay for program out of pocket, has not demonstrated the ability to successfully pass the entrance examination (as required for ability to benefit applicants), or those who demonstrate extreme inability to benefit from the designated program.
Each application, along with other information, is reviewed by the On-Site Director or designee. If rejected the applicant is notified immediately, and any fees paid towards the application are refunded.
Students in need of tuition financing should submit the appropriate application prior to the anticipated start of classes.
Admission Procedures
To apply for admission, applicants should contact the admissions department to schedule an appointment for a personal interview and tour of the facility. During this time applicants will complete the questionnaire for enrollment. Applicants must provide a copy of their high school diploma or transcript, or a copy of their GED diploma or GED test scores. If the applicant does not possess a high school diploma or GED and the program does not require it, the applicant must pass the institute’s entrance exam prior to being accepted into that program. Applicants must bring in Picture Identification and their Social Security Card. A second appointment will be scheduled for registration. A final appointment will made to meet with the Financial Aid Director.
